Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth

The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on (usually) the second Saturday in June.

Why cut a cake with a knife when there’s a ceremonial sword available?

On Friday, Queen Elizabeth II attended an afternoon reception in Cornwall, England with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. The lunch was hosted by volunteers at The Eden Project, a garden and educational center that features geodesic domes. They gathered to plan the queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a celebration of the monarch's seven-decade reign, which is expected to be held next year.

In a hilarious moment captured on camera, the queen was presented the opportunity to cut into a large celebratory sheet cake. Instead of making the first cut into the cake with a standard knife, the queen wielded a large sword instead to get the job done.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent

For the second year in a row, Trooping the Colour was a smaller-scale affair compared to years past - and that included a pared back showing by the royal family.

Rather than being surrounded by a coterie of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Queen Elizabeth only had one companion by her side at this year's belated birthday celebration.

The monarch, 95, was joined by her cousin Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, at this year's parade. Still scaled-down out of an abundance of caution amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it nonetheless represented an incremental return to grand Trooping the Colour festivities usually put on by the palace - not to mention, a step forward as they plan the spectacular Platinum Jubilee in 2022 in celebration of the record-breaking Queen's 70 years on the throne.

Happy birthday to our beloved Queen.
