National Picnic Day
Dear Friends, I have no idea where these things come from or who decides, but this one appeals to me: National Picnic Day. Let's face if from the basic to the fancy, it all tastes better outside. And after a long winter, and now that the grass has greened up, it is a luxury to spend some time outside... You don't need a fancy picnic basket to haul your treats outside. The old tin ones are great. I collect them and use them for all sorts of storage because they look so cute. B

Happy Earth Day
Dear Friends, Today is Earth Day. Let's interpret that anyway we like from taking some quiet time outside, or simply reading a book with a cup of tea. Our celebrating can simply be quiet appreciation. Or maybe a little time in the garden. It is still chilly in Chicago but I did stop at a new to me nursery yesterday #HawthornGardens and was forced to admit it just isn't time to plant here yet. I did get one tomato plant I am babying on my counter...simply because I could not r

Beatrice Potter...
Dear Friends, Easter makes me think of Beatrice Potter... We never out grow our love of Peter Rabbit... She was a special person who gave us all hours (and years) of enjoyment. And this is a favorite. Sometimes it just takes one small idea from a book to get you started... I am a big fan of the divided beds and in my new garden I am creating this year

Orchids...#ChicagoBotanicalGarden
Dear Friends, Some of you may know that I recently moved to the Chicago area. One of the first things my husband did for me as a treat was get us a family membership to the Chicago Botanica Gardens. I was beyond thrilled as I play in the garden and am in the process of starting a new garden, so I run over often for inspiration. Their formal gardens are unreal but they also have special shows, and we were lucky enough to visit the Orchid Show. The Orchid Show started on Febr
